How to play on paper
- Print one sheet per player. Any printer will do - black and white is fine.
- Draw your ships on the "Your fleet" grid where your opponent can't see them: stand a book up between you.
- Take turns calling a square: "B4", "J10". Your opponent answers "miss", "hit" or "sunk".
- Mark your shots on the "Enemy fleet" grid: a dot for a miss, a cross for a hit. Cross out each sunk ship beside the grid.
The first to sink the whole enemy fleet wins.
Which sheet should you pick?
- 5 ships - the classic board game: ships may touch, and players take strict turns.
- 10 ships - the version played on paper across Eastern Europe: ships never touch, not even at a corner, and a hit earns another shot.
- 6×6 - for kids still learning letters and numbers: four ships, big squares and a game too short to get boring.
For teachers
Battleship teaches coordinates: to fire, you name a column and a row. Print a set for the whole class - the sheets are free, no sign-up needed.
Each sheet holds one game and prints on Letter or A4 without cutting anything off.
No printer?
Play online: with a friend via a link, or against the computer at three difficulty levels. After each game, the review shows where the best shot was.
